Bozeman Track Club

The Bozeman Track Club was established in the late 80’s when its founder Dave Skelton identified the ambition of local high school athletes in Gallatin valley and the surrounding areas as having a special interest in indoor track & field. When this organization was founded in 1989, there were only six athletes, the Bozeman Track Club now has over 200 members actively participating in track & field, cross-country, and road races.

In the late 90’s, the track club instituted a outdoor track & field season for younger athletes and shortly after, created an elementary/middle school cross-country program for the Bozeman school district in 2002. The club’s intent is to encourage and help young people to develop physically, emotionally and socially through their involvement in the sport of track and field and cross-country. They also aim to improve the students physical conditioning as they learn skills needed to excel in track & field and cross-country.

With this program leaders have seen student athletes build a positive self–image as they recognize their individual achievements. Students will be part of a team that encourages and promotes the development of friendships, good sportsmanship, encouragement of fellow athletes, and a positive experience in all aspects.

Bozeman Track Club’s mission statement is to serve our youth through the sports for cross-country and track & field to achieve their personal goals and achievements while realizing the many benefits of a lifetime commitment to being physically fit and actively involved in our community regardless of their future endeavors.

Club membership includes primarily young athletes between the ages of 8 to 18 years old. However, the track club also includes “open” and “masters” athletes. Public, private and home school children living in the greater Gallatin valley are welcome to participate in the program. All skill levels are welcomed and encouraged to join the Bozeman Track Club. At the end of the high school season, members join the younger age groups to compete in the USATF Junior Olympic programs during track & field and cross-country.
