2015 Toyota Sienna Only Minivan to Earn Top Safety Rating
This year, only one minivan achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) Top Safety Pick Plus designation – the 2015 Toyota Sienna. The IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus is the highest possible safety rating in the industry. To select vehicles for Top Safety Pick designation, the IIHS conducts vehicle tests to determine how well a vehicle protects its occupants in a crash. Vehicles are also rated for systems that warn the driver or brake automatically, front crash prevention, and more. Those that achieve Top Safety Pick Plus status meet the Top Safety Pick criteria and earn an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention. According to the IIHS, vehicles that earn Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick Plus designation are the best vehicle choices for safety within each size category.
According to Toyota, the 2015 Sienna comes with a variety of safety features with protection for all. The new Sienna includes 8 standard airbags – the most standard airbags in its class – including driver and front passenger dual stage airbags, driver and front passenger seat-mounted side airbags, a driver knee airbag, a front passenger seat-cushion airbag, and Roll-sensing Side Curtain Airbags for all rows. The new Sienna also comes standard with the Star Safety System, which is a suite of six active safety features that include Smart Stop Technology, Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control, Brake Assist, Traction Control, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, and an Anti-Lock Brake System. Other safety features include an available Pre-Collision System, which uses radar to help determine if a frontal collision is imminent and then applies the brakes and retracts the front seatbelts to help reduce the effects of a collision if it occurs, a Tire Pressure Monitoring System, Automatic Locking Retractor seatbelts, and four Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children. With these safety features and more, it’s no wonder that the 2015 Toyota Sienna earned IIHS 2015 Top Safety Pick Plus designation.
